This story is erotic but the physically impossible detracts from it. There is no physical way that a woman could take a rod of 43 cm into her body without tearing herself apart . This greatly detracted from the eroticism. All acts have to be physically possible unless explained adequately as due to science or magic. This was not explained and reduced the rating greatly.

Misunderstood Title

An absolutely amazing instructional calligraphy book providing a reference for a very large number of calligraphic hands. There does seem to be a little bit of confusion about the title. In no way is it stating that you will become an expert in 24 hours, rather there are 24 1-hour lessons. Mastering anything will take years of dedicated practice.

Pro:
-Large quantity of calligraphic hands
-Many many examples, both historic and modern
-Great detail into how the letter-forms are penned, as well as alternate letters/styles.
-Excellent information about each hand, its historical context, and characteristic elements of that hand.

Con:
-The pictures of the calligraphic alphabets could be slightly higher res. But in no way does it impede one's ability to see the letters, or use them as an aid to learn the calligraphic hands.

Conclusion,
Get this book.

Excellent resource

Pictures, diagrams, explanations, a bit of history, a bit of layout and drafting... This book has everything--including nib sizing, pen types, ink types, paper types, how to choose between all of them. It even has a section on sharpening nibs--something I knew nothing about before picking this book up.

People who feel like they have to remind you that 'you can't REALLY learn in 24 hours' have forgotten the terms 'hyperbole' and 'marketing.' This is a great foundation for someone new to the art, who hasn't the time or money for classes yet. Practice is the only way to develop polish, but this book gives you a wider variety of things to practice than any other resource I've seen outside of specialty stores.

Rethink Redemption

In this follow up to "The Last Seraph," the roles are reversed. Villains become heroes and heroes fall (again). "The First Guardian" is a fast, dark, often hilarious book. There are some wonderfully wrought new characters here that I fell in love with (Dexter is my favorite). It's an edgy book, in the sense that some of the action has very sharp edges that will stick with you. You won't forget what happens in the basement, for instance. Generally speaking, Rehnay's action sequences are gorgeous and intense. As with Rehnay's previous book, the dialogue is excellent and will make you laugh out loud. It will make you rethink what you know about redemption stories. Highly recommended.

This book is a great read. Evey is a unique young woman who communicates with a character in her head she has named Ghost. She is in love with Ghost and suddenly one day he appears on earth. She finds out he is the archangel Gabriel who is destined to be paired with her. Evey and her best friend get involved trying to save Gabriel from his nemesis Sataniel. The antics and chaos are sometimes chilling, sometimes hilarious, and always colorful and exciting. This author has put together her second book about the great Creator, the Last Seraph and the archangels who inhabit their domain. She is a great storyteller who I hope will keep bringing these characters to us in future books.

An amazing second book in 'The Seraphim Saga' by Jennifer Rehnay! The reader finds themselves relating to Evey and feeling afraid of Gabriel, with the shocks of Sataniel and the humor of Alexiel blending wonderfully to make a thrilling story. I could barely put the book down! Highly recommended to those who read the first book and to those who haven't - START! This is a beautifully written series that captivates the imagination, stirs a spectrum of emotions throughout the pages, and will make you want to read it again!

It features prose by Américo Paredes and Jovita Gonzalez, Rolando Hinojosa and Tomás Rivera, Estela Trambley Portillo, and Sandra Cisneros. Among the poets included in the anthology are Ricardo Sánchez, Carmen Tafolla, Angela de Hoyos, and Abelardo "Lalo" Delgado. Hecho en Tejas also includes corridos from the turn of the century and verses sung by music legends such as Lydia Mendoza and Santiago Jimenez, Sr., Freddy Fender, and Selena. In addition to these established names, already known across the United States, Hecho en Tejas introduces such younger writers as Christine Granados, Erasmo Guerra, and Tonantzin Canestaro-Garcia, the famous Tejano authors of tomorrow.

In assembling this canonic reader, Dagoberto Gilb has created more than an anthology. About the Author
Dagoberto Gilb spent sixteen years working as a construction worker, twelve as a highrise carpenter with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters. He is the author of The Magic of Blood (University of New Mexico Press), which won the 1994 PEN/Hemingway Award and was a PEN/Faulkner finalist, The Last Known Residence of Mickey Acua, Woodcuts of Women, and Gritos, which was a finalist for the National Books Critics Circle Award. He has been the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Whiting Writers' Award. His work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Threepenny Review, Harper's, and The Best American Essays. His latest novel, The Flowers, is due out at the end of the year. Born in Los Angeles, he made his home for many years in El Paso and now lives in Austin, Texas.

Great book, but not for 3rd year medical students!

This is a very thorough book, and has a lot of interesting material in it. Our clerkship director made this book mandatory for the clerkship and he expected us to get through it in our 12 weeks on Surgery, but he has to be insane. I tried reading this book before I discovered Pestana...it is so dense and so full of completely low yield unimportant details for the THIRD YEAR MEDICAL STUDENT. I am only basing this review on what I think this book has to offer for the third years out there. This is the only reason I am giving this book 4 stars. It is a good book, but please do yourself a favor and just get Pestana if you are a medical student. I do not want to go into surgery, so this might also be influencing my review, so please be aware. Of the first 4 chapters that I did manage to read during my SICU rotation, I did learn some important details, but in that time I could have learned so much more clinically important material by reading Pestana...

Great for Core Rotations.

This book was recommended for my surgery core by my attending. It's an easy and informative read, but not a white coat pocket friendly size. It's great at explaining what is expected of you, the common pre-op and post-op procedures and complications, as well as common procedures you'll be exposed to during the three months. As for the shelf, there are pocket guides such as Pastina's 180 Surgical Notes and NMS Case Files that are more high yield, but this text is great for a real understanding of what you need to know (and are likely to get pimped on in the OR).

There is a lot of really good information in this text for the 3rd year student

I read this textbook as a third year medical student. Suggesting this textbook for a third year medical student to learn surgery is akin to asking someone to find a needle in a haystack. There is a lot of really good information in this text for the 3rd year student, but I don't think you could organize it more poorly if that was your primary intention. Like the practice of medicine itself, we have to be more evidence based/ outcomes driven with medical textbooks. Today more than ever, from med student to attending level, more is required in smaller increments of time. Textbooks for this era must be designed to relay level appropriate information in an efficient and effective manner, This text fails in both of those regards.

A great collection of *scholarly* *critical* work on the subject

As anybody can tell from looking at the detailed table of contents and introduction, this is not an encyclopedia or an exhaustive survey, much less a picture book for leather fans or a homage to "Nazi aesthetics." It is a scholarly work on a particular genre of film ("Nazisploitation"--it's the title!) of a certain time (roughly 1968-1980) and its broader cultural effects and implications. The volume, which I purchased elsewhere, has insightful and critical articles by up-and-coming younger and eminent senior scholars of German and Austrian film, including the much-awarded scholar, writer, and producer Robert von Dassanowsky. Anybody who reads this book is going to be smarter and better informed for it, but that means reading what's there and not lamenting that you wanted another book but ordered this one instead.

Excellent and THE book on the subject
By German Studies Fan
This is the perfect book for introducing "-xploitation" and German representation to students, critical thinkers, pop culture buffs, film enthusiasts, and everyone else. Please note: brain cells are required for reading. It has been a while since I picked up a relatively academic book (we rarely read non-legal materials as lawyers), so it was really invigorating to get this book.
