I learned a lot, but not everything, about Data Vault

If you are new to Data Vault modeling, this book will teach you what a Data Vault looks like: the components, the basic modeling rules, why it is flexible and scalable. It explains concepts and architectual definitions and shows clear examples of several building blocks. However, after reading the book I am not ready to implement a Data Vault: the book raises almost as many questions as it has answered. It would have been nice if the book would have taken the reader step-by-step through modeling and implementation with consistent examples. I expected to have a complete guide to the Data Vault, but I ended up with a solid introduction.

Expensive must have

In a couple of words, the book is a must buy because it is the only Kindle-ready good enough DV book.

The Good: The book is complete from a model standpoint. It addresses all the parts of the DV, delving into details of what works, what seems to work and what mistakes you should avert. Mr. Linstedt tries to prepare you first discussing a lot of concepts, jargon and Mathmatics points.

The Bad: The book is not very well written. My first review was mean beyond reasonable criticism to the overall writing of the book and I am editing it. As I read and read it over again I became more condescendent of his style (or lack of thereoff.) The bad writing does not impair the reading, albeit it does anoy the reader. Sometimes you're forced into imagining a person speaking the words aloud to try to convey some meanings. Mr. Linstedt really knows his business and I totally happy with the book.

The Ugly: the book seems to have been converted to Kindle format on a hurry, and is not worth of its price. It would be right about the thirty buckets, so so. Very lowres images, lots of greys - ugly ugly ugly!!!

The final word: buy it if you need to learn DV in its completeness. None of its shortcommings can prevent you from learning what valuable lessons it has to teach you. However, if you are not sure about it, you might go for Pentaho Kettle Solutions first. There is an appendix much more well written on DV, with good practical example (but very far from completed compared to Supercharger here.) In fact, there was the first place I learned about it and I got increased frustrated no being able to find good DV information online (everything seem to be covered by a veil of cold fusion copyrighted secrecy.) Should Mr. Linstedt have wrote a book on the lines of that appendix, it would be worth a hundred buck!

Data Vault rocks and I am learning a lot of new and interesting things on DV. Coupled with the Kettle Solutions appendix, I am confident enough to try it.

Please, Mr. Linsted, remake the book. It is a fine job and you have unvaluable knowledge to any enterprise in need of DW.

The contents are good - the illustrations are very hard to see/read in the e-book version. Illustration 5-16 is totally missing.

I believe a bit more work should have been put into proof reading this e-book.

Michael has great depth in the workings of the financial world, is an incisive observer, and an excellent writer.

This is a timely book and worthy of a read by anyone interesting in the dark implications of Central Bank interventions and the myriad financial shenanigans that make up today's landscape.

I need to start by saying that I respect Michael Lewitt and read his reports extensively.

I was disappointed with this book and admit that I didn't finish it - a rarity for me.

I was expecting an analytical, data driven narrative of how the World got to where it is now, the devolution of Central Banking policy and where things might go next, with clear strategies to protect one's wealth.

Instead I found the emotionally driven labels given to people like Obama et al off-putting and unprofessional. To the point where I stopped reading the book came across as a rant against what has become of US society and politics - which is fine but maybe a better forum is a free online blog and not a book that I have paid good money for.

I may have put the book down too early but as a non-US citizen or resident and full time investor it held little of worth for me. I hope his next book is more content driven and less partisan/ emotional.

The most important financial book of 2016

The subject matter here is sophisticated but Michael Lewitt has a gift for laying out abstract stuff (think derivatives and interest rate policy) in a meaningful and even entertaining way. The man has style... and a monster intellect. I'd call this a must-read for any person who earns, spends, saves, or invests money today. In other words, yeah, you.

I finished this book with the feeling that I'd just watched a really good disaster movie. (The detailed metaphors comparing credit derivatives to monsters and dinosaurs probably didn't hurt.) The difference was that this nightmare is real - Lewitt offers detailed research, data, and years of analytical experience to back up his claims that we're headed straight for a $200 trillion "Super Crash." (While I can't say there's like to be a happy ending, he does provide detailed policy change recommendations that could help change our course, plus an invaluable chapter on portfolio allocation and protection in case the worst does happen.) It's an entertaining, invaluable - and frankly, scary - read.

This is the best book on parent-child relationships I've ever read. It contains so much excellent, detailed information on making strong bonds with your children. Very easy to read and full of insights. "The Parent Survival Guide" takes you by the hand and guides you through a deeply therapeutic ten-week experience that will change the way you see your child forever.

I know because what Dr. Kellam has written is the self-guided version of the therapeutic course I took when my daughter was four and had problems I could not solve on my own. She's not kidding about the ten-weeks. A 30-minute weekly playtime one-on-one with your child, done as directed by the author, can reconnect you with your child and save your family like it did mine.

One of the brilliant touches she includes is a personal account of her own experience with her son. Chapter-by-chapter her parallel story reminds you are not alone. It's exactly the right kind of hand-holding at exactly the right pace to guide you from chaos to calm, so don't jump ahead or skip anything. Follow her directions and you will be amazed at the results. (Also available as Kindle.)

Amazing!

This book helped us out so much. My husband is military and has deployed multiple times. Our kids were having a really rough time we learned about this just before his last deployment and it did wonders especially with our middle child. She was having multiple tantrums aday and seems just angry all the time, she was almost two at the time. We noticed a difference in a matter of days and in a matter of weeks she was happier and now she only has tantrums every now and then. We have been practicing for about a year and a half . I recommend this book to anyone who has children troubled or not. It helps you to learn how your child processes emotions and how to communicate with your child better. It has been a blessing for our family

The recipes are great. I just think putting in information about the total prep/cooking time, what pan sizes are needed, etc., and just being more detailed in general would have made it a little easier to use.

Gorgeous, Sleek, Professional!

This book is beautiful, thorough and lovingly put together. Niomi not only includes her own recipes, but her story as well and important details about a proper balanced diet, what "superfoods" are and how to cook with them, and how to eat well for cheap. I have already successfully recreated some of her Youtube recipes and LOVED them, so I can't wait to try the ones in the book.

A VERY GOOD FAIR-PLAY PUZZLE WITH QUITE A BIT OF HUMOR

EASY TO KILL (1939; originally published in Great Britain as MURDER IS EASY) is a very cleverly written fair-play puzzle story with a couple of bonuses: a fairly good love story and quite a bit of humor (most of it at the expense of a newspaper publisher, Lord Gordon Easterfield).

The detective in this book is neither Poirot nor Miss Marple. Instead, it is Luke Fitzwilliam, a retired colonial policeman who has returned to England and chances to converse on a train with a woman who reminds him of a favorite aunt. She informs him that she is reporting three murders to Scotland Yard and is hoping to prevent a fourth, that of a village doctor. Before she can do so, she is killed by a car, and a short time later the doctor she mentioned is killed. Fitzwilliam decides to investigate these five deaths.

There is a large array of plausible suspects, but readers with their eyes open ought to be able to solve the mystery before Luke Fitzwilliam does. (This novel has 24 chapters, and my own correct solution was arrived at in the middle of Chapter 19.)

I have rated this mystery four-stars (for a letter grade of "B+") and would have rated it higher if its concluding scenes had not depended so very heavily on a series of implausible and lucky coincidences. To say more than this would involve writing a "spoiler."

There is a large array of plausible suspects, but readers with their eyes open ought to be able to solve the mystery before Luke Fitzwilliam does. (This novel has 24 chapters, and my own correct solution was arrived at in the middle of Chapter 19.)

I have rated this mystery four-stars (for a letter grade of "B+") and would have rated it higher if its concluding scenes had not depended so very heavily on a series of implausible and lucky coincidences. To say more than this would involve writing a "spoiler."

Interesting account of human psyche...

Interesting. And a bit disturbing. Christie is really a master at getting into a person's head. I couldn't put the book down. I changed my opinion three times as to who the murderer was, but the 3rd time I was correct. (Another thing that entertains me is how quickly people fall in love in these novels!)

Great For the Intermediate Artist

Not for the beginners, but will greatly assist those who love drawing characters for fun or even graphic artist. I'm not an artist by no means, but I did want to spruce up my artistic abilities for some sketches for a prototype (clothing). How to Draw Awesome Figures put everything in perspective as far as proportions go. I also found the step-by-step teachings to be very helpful. The layering technique helps a lot in building characters (both male and female). It goes in depth and breaks down the importance of knowing basic anatomy when drawing figures. So detailed that the chapter on muscles are color coded for better understanding and comprehension for application.

I'm getting there and I know with much practice and this book, I'll be right where I need to be. I recommend this book to those who are seeking to hone their craft as an artist.

Great resource for learning body proportions and different poses!

If you are looking to improve the look of your characters, making them proportionally more appealing, then this is the book for you. It has taught me many things I wanted to learn, and a few things I never knew I needed to learn. I have only had this book for a short time, but already I can see a marked improvement in my drawings as my understanding of how the human body looks and moves has improved.

It doesn't cover how to draw the different parts of the body, but it explains from the outset that it only intends to cover the figure (proportions, poses, etc) so it does its job well. I felt that the teaching style is clear and concise, in much the same way as Neil's art video courses are.

I got this book just a few days ago and am already amazed at all the work that went into creating it. Neil has done a superb job at pinpointing all the details that are required knowledge and not bogging us down with unnecessary parts of the anatomy. It's a very easy book to read and simply easy to follow directions. This book is a great start to getting hands on experience drawing the figure from memory. I would also recommend that you continue your studies of the figure by also visiting Neil's web site @ http://masterpaintingnow.com where you can actually see him in action. Great book Neil :)
