Funniest Geronimo Stilton book ever!

The story was sooo funny that I almost broke my funnybone! It all starts when Champ signs up Geronimo Stilton for the marathon and wakes him up every morning to practice. He even dumped a vase of cold water on him! Geronimo also got hit in the ball at soccer 25 times! During the marathon, Geronimo ran the marathon, nabbed a theif, got chased by flies and mosquitos, saved a rodent from an earthquake, helped find a rodent's watch, saved a drowning rodent, and win the marathon all in one day! At the end of the story, Champ signs up Geronimo for another marathon at the Rattytrap Jungle! The book also have some excersise tips to become a sportsmouse.

I am a 9 year old boy and it is one of the best books I've ever read. It's a mystery, it's funny and exciting. My sister can't wait to read it. Now I am buying more of the series!

HaHaH!!! hilarious book Geronimo's in a Haunted house with a cat that sounds weird and I mean super weird!!!! Geronimo thinks that hes being haunted by a ghost cat but its just two small tiny cats who are useless to hurt Geronimo. They were pulling pranks to make unexpected visitors think the house was haunted they did all the pranks because they didn't want people selling there house. It was a super cool and funny book.

It wove many different things I am quite familiar with into a much broader fabric, and deeper understanding - confirming so much that I already know, but carrying it much farther as well.
It's hard for me to say if this would be a great resource for someone who is new to these subjects. However, if you have exposure to this vein of thought, this is an excellent read. I would expect, that if you are interested enough to have made it as far as reading reviews, it's probably a good pick.

Mind blowing

Read this book in 2007 only to put it down do to lack of understanding or resonance. I finally picked this book back up again to read almost a decade later do to Peter Sage's recommendation. I haven't been able to put the book down. This book is unfolding mysteries that flow with my life that seem to have slipped away from me a decade ago. Absolutely mind blowing!

An eye opening and fascinating read

This is a fascinating book that goes way beyond what is needed to prove that muscle testing works and has value far beyond what I ever imagined. In addition, this book is a lesson is how to raise your energy to a higher level and gives a clear guide on what a person should be shooting for. The only reason I gave this book four instead of five stars is it's not an easy read. Dr Hawkins is a research scientist and writes like you would expect a research scientist to write. I highly recommend this book as it will open your eyes to what's possible for you along with the entire human race.

The Penguin Classic Baby Name Book is a secondary resource at best. Hamlin has authored other baby-name books, but in this case she uses a pseudonym. Here she compiles a quirky assortment of names drawn only from "Penguin Classics" publications. The information, given both in the name entries and in sidebars on such subjects as "German names," is concise and entertaining and includes lengthy descriptions of references to literary characters of the given name. The problem lies in the selection. The author does not understate the case when she says, "Not all these names are actually usable for a child." With such ugly ducklings as Baiardo (a legendary horse), Iago, Hecuba, and Topsy, this book would serve best as a pet-name book. Vivian Reed, California State Univ., Long Beach

More for literature buffs than parents to be

This book is not a conventional baby name book - it lists names that are included in the Penguin Classics series of books. It does not include 20th Century classics though, which is a big let down. It is not a book you would probably use solely if you were trying to find a name for your child-to-be - many, if not the majority, of names are not really those you would consider - Minnehaha perhaps? And certain books seem to be mentioned a little too much - `Orlando Furioso' must have a cast of thousands if the number of times it is mentioned in this book is anything to go by.
However, it is interesting, and it gives an insight into the importance of names as indicators in different periods of literature. It also refuses to concentrate on English language books - there are references to Ancient Greek, Scandinavian, Spanish, French, Russian and other non-English literature. If you are a scholar or fan of classic literature, you will probably find something of interest in this book. But if you are searching for an appropriate name for a baby, while it might throw up some you hadn't considered before, you should probably try somewhere else...

This book would make a great companion to “A is for Atticus” (see my review) and is just as interesting to read—maybe more. It would also make a useful reference for people who write fiction set in the premodern era, since it provides quite a few bits of information regarding the naming customs of various places and times. The names listed were chosen from the roster of Penguin Classics (pre-20th-century literature) in print as of 2001—novels, poetry, and drama ranging from Greek mythology to Chaucerian England to pre-Revolutionary Russia, with stops in France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and the U.S. (Many of these, of course, were originally from the Bible or from other literature that didn’t make the Penguin cut; “Undine,” for example, is here, credited to Edith Wharton’s “The Custom of the Country,” with no mention of German folklore or its interpretation, in the early 19th century, by LaMotte-Fouqu�.) Each entry (alphabetically arranged within Boys’ Names first, then Girls’) gives the ethnic derivation of the name, its meaning, and at least one example of its use in the Classics line, with something of the personality and actions of the character involved, and there are also frequent excerpts from the works cited. Some of the names (Hades, Neptune, Pluto, Quixote, Shahriyar, Sindbad, Remarkable, Urania) are unlikely to be used by modern parents—but that’s where the book’s utility as a historical reference comes in. It’s definitely a volume that all literature-loving parents should consult.

A nice little name reference book.

This is a really interesting little book with explanations for lots of literary names and references to the history of the name, too. The only reason I downgraded it to 4 stars is it could have been more complete. Still, a nice little reference book all in all and with an interesting aspect.

Very Informative and easy to follow!!!

I noticed that the 6th edition of the ServSafe books was out, but the price was just to steep for me. Being the smart shopper that I am I knew that this edition and the newer edition would be very similar. These books and other textbooks usually contain the same information. I purchased this book and read it all thoroughly in one day. Very informative. I was just refreshing my ServSafe knowledge. Easy to follow and understand. The only thing I don't like about Servsafe in general is that some of the questions with pictures are not always clear as to what's going on in the picture. Other than that for maybe one or two questions , i have no other problems.

I am a licensed food safety instructor, and am always on the prowl for new information in this field. This pamplet was too small. It was very well illustrated but the information was tiny for a field so big. Show but no go.

Wolf from the Past

Sylvie LaForge knew coming back from the dead wouldn’t be easy but the way Gator Rollins watches her every move makes her decidedly uneasy and excited in this gripping paranormal romance.

Gator never got a chance to tell Sylvie that he loved her and now that he has a second chance he’s determined that this time he won’t let anyone or anything get between him and Sylvie and the reader’s heart can’t help but be touched by the love and tenderness that Gator shows Sylvie as she tries to adjust to being among family again. The chemistry between Gator and Sylvie sizzles with lots of heat and the sex scenes are sweet and sensual but with such a horrific past, there is a lot of emotional walls that will need to come down in order for the relationship to progress and these strong, compelling characters grab the attention as the fast paced, smooth flowing plot captivates readers with suspense, excitement, turmoil and romance.

Expectation builds throughout the story as the Salvation Pack realizes that their former pack will be coming for Sylvie and excitement builds as tension within the pack escalates and they discover that someone with an obsession for Sylvie may just be leading the charge. The intriguing events draw the reader in while the well written scenes and details capture the imagination and make it easy for the reader to become absorbed in the story and the intense emotions that flow from every page.

I was thoroughly enthralled by Sylvie and Gator’s story from the very beginning and I have to say that I enjoyed meeting the Salvation Pack but in regards to that while it wasn’t absolutely necessary to read the previous books in the series, I do wish that I had because I missed out on the events that led up to this point but of course that means that I have some enjoyable stories to get busy reading.

Good read!

Wolf from the Past by N.J. Walters is a double first for me. Both a first by this author and first in the series for me. Sometimes jumping into a series can be a big mistake especially if there is quite a bit of world building to go along with introducing characters. Thankfully, I was able to get right into the story with only a few minor hiccups,

To escape a violent mating, Sylvie has been faking her death for years. Once she receives word her mate was dead, she approaches her brother in his new pack in hopes to have him back in her life. Not only is she welcome back with open arms, but a werewolf she has always had feeling for is part of his pack. Gator was raise in the swamp, always on the fridge of his former Louisiana pack, he has struck out with his friends to form a new pack. He's always wanted his best friend's sister but her parents have never considered him worthy. Now that she's back in his new pack and in his life Gator will do whatever it takes to protect her from further harm.

Wolf from the Past was a good read. Sylvie was abused fairly harshly by her previous mate and as the story about how she faked her death came into play, it was hard not to feel bad for her. Gator is pretty sexy and intense about his feeling for Sylvie. There's a really instant attraction between them that, at first, was kind of difficult to get over. Let's face it, she was abused pretty badly by her dead mate. For her to jump into a relationship so quickly with Gator had me doubting the velocity of the romance. Once, it can out that both had been carrying torches for one another for a long time, then I was okay with it.

What really had me cheering this story on was the dynamics of the Salvation Pack. The interactions of all the mated couples and how they interacted with each other, good stuff here. It was such fun and friendly, it makes me want to go back and read all their stories. On top of that, there is a good world building here with the what and whys of the Salvation Pack. As I mentioned, this is the first book I read in the series, but it's easy to see there's a epic battle coming. There's one more member in the pack that has yet to settle down which tells me I have some back reading to do before the final book comes out.

I am absolutely in love with the Salvation Pack and its members

As the fourth book in the author’s Salvation Pack series, all I keep asking myself is –

Why have I not read the rest of this series?

And

Why haven’t I read anything from this author before?

N.J. Walters knocks it out of the park with this story, which makes me want to read everything from her! The story is well developed, characters well written, and sexy time is HOT HOT HOT! I am absolutely in love with the Salvation Pack and its members!!

Wolf from the Past features Gator and Sylvie. Coming from an abusive past, Sylvie went on the run and into hiding for a long time. After hearing of her abusive mate’s death, she comes out of hiding and is pleasantly surprised to find that her brother, and a few others, have left her uncle’s tyrannical pack. Her brother, Armand, is relieved to find out that she is alive and ok. But, so is someone else. Gator.

Gator mourned the loss of Sylvie long ago, but now that she is back he wants to claim her as his mate. He loved her long before she left, but circumstances got in the way and they couldn’t together. Understandably, Sylvie is leery about mating to someone else after all she has been through, so Gator must prove his love and loyalty to the broken wolf.

The way Gator went about winning over Sylvie’s trust made me swoon! What a sweet and sexy wolf he is! He didn’t push or intimidate her and instead knew how broken she was and became tender and sweet…exactly what she needed. While their sex scenes were steamy, they were, also, tender and sweet. Again, very swoon worthy! Really, there isn’t anything to not like about this story.

I highly, highly, recommend reading this book and will be stalking….I mean, following….this author from now on!

Ideal Catholic Bible for those Learning the Faith

This Bible uses the Second Edition of the Catholic Edition of the Revised Standard Version, widely regarded as the best translation available today. This means it was last revised according to the principles promulgated in Liturgiam Authenticam in 2001. The printing is well done—clean, clear and easy to read—and the accompanying commentary and additional resources are superb. However, the prospective reader needs to realize that this edition’s resources are primarily devoted to highlighting and clarifying the teachings and practices of the Church as found in the Word of God and as more fully articulated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

This purpose was inspired by the Midwest Theological Forum’s Didache Series of religious education textbooks, and it makes this edition of the Bible the best one to use in connection with religious education, or by readers who want to understand both the teachings of the Church and their foundations in Sacred Scripture. It would not be the best edition for those who know Catholic doctrine very well and are now interested in exploring the origins and development of the Biblical books, the surrounding history with which the texts interact, or the full range of perspectives on the meaning of difficult passages.

The Didache Bible includes the following preparatory resources as front-matter:

* Foreword by Cardinal Francis George on the general relationships among the Catechism, Vatican II’s Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation, and Sacred Scripture.
* Preface by Fr. James Socias of the Midwest Theological Forum on the fundamental purposes of this edition.
* Introduction on Biblical inspiration and the various senses of Scripture.
* A brief guide on how to read the Bible.

Of even greater interest are the resources which accompany each of the books. There is a one-page introduction to each book which covers authorship, dating, audience and main themes. Then, page by page as the the Biblical text unf olds, we find:

* Extensive commentary, verse by verse, on the meaning of the text and its significance for understanding Catholic teaching and practice.
* Call-out boxes which briefly highlight key Biblical and theological concepts to aid the reader in understanding the full significance of the text.
* Lists of related Biblical passages (these cross references visually separate the text from the commentary).
* Periodic full-page apologetical explanations of important Catholic concepts, teachings and practices, placed at appropriate points along the way. There are over 100 of these longer explanations.

Finally, following the last book of the Bible, the back-matter includes:

* 24 full-color maps providing geographical orientations for both the Old and New Testaments.
* A 44-page glossary of Biblical names and terms.
* Index to the maps.
* Index of apologetical explanations by title.
* Index of apologetical explanations by subject.
* A 23-page index of subjects, including Biblical names, which leads to the Biblical passages in which they appear.

The Didache Bible is currently available in a sturdy hardbound edition with two ribbons. I give this Bible my highest recommendation for all those who wish to understand both Sacred Scripture and Catholic teaching more fully, including the deep links between the two. I would say it is the best edition to give as a first Bible to Catholics who have not yet made an extensive study of their Faith. It is the ideal Bible for them to have when they go off to college or out into the world, where they will eventually be challenged—not least about the relationship between Sacred Scripture and the Catholic Church.

Outstanding Catholic Study Bible

As an RCIA director I am always looking for faithful, simple to use materials for my candidates. To this point easy to use Bible studies are difficult to come by. Most are limited to either New Testament or single book volumes. The Catholic Answer Bible and the African Bible from the USCCB were okay, but I wanted the RSV, not the NAB for their use in class and study. Until now, we have given out the Ignatius Press RSV-CE without notes in absence of anything better.

That finally changes with the Didache Study Bible which complements the high school series by Midwest Theological Forum (and jointly published here with Ignatius Press). This beautiful, sturdy, two ribbon volume is perfect for Catholic families and those new to the Catholic faith. Everything is here that you would want in a study Bible from short introductions to the books of the Bible, apologetic inserts, maps, and solid commentary showing the connection between scripture and the Catholic faith with references to the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The CCC is saturated in Scripture and we see that connection more fully in this Bible.

Until Ignatius releases the full Catholic Study Bible next year, I highly recommend the Didache Bible for study groups, RCIA, religious education classes, and individual faith formation. I will also be recommending it for our Street Ministry Teams through St. Paul Street Evangelization as they share the Bible in the streets.

Easily the best study bible in existence.

There are study bibles, devotional bibles, and special edition niche bibles — then, there is a bible that brings to life what a bible should be. This, frankly, is it. While there is the Reformation Study Bible, the Wesleyan Study Bible, and the Orthodox Study Bible, none of them rises to the level of doctrinal and apologetic material found in The Didache Bible. I seriously doubt that there will be one to top it.

Using the Second Edition of the Catholic Edition of the Revised Standard Version as the translation, the editors (James Socias and Jeffrey Cole) have decided to put to rest all notions that the Catholic Faith and Tradition is not biblical. I write this review as an Anglo-Catholic, with heavy leanings to the Catholic side of that hyphen. Even then, I am amazed at the depth of Catholic doctrine’s connection to Holy Scripture. This is not an apologetic bible, refusing to “prove” anything. It simply states the Catholic position, showing you how the doctrine is derived from and connected to Scripture. Equally so, The Didache Bible is the most theological bible I have yet to put my hands on and I doubt I will ever see another one match it.

Unlike other study bibles, The Didache Bible is built around doctrine via the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The editors draw this inspiration from Pope Benedict XVI’s opening to the “Year of Faith,” where he said urged Catholics to reach to a “systematic knowledge of the context of the faith” which is found in the Catechism. I know more than a few Catholics, (practicing, lapsed, and separated) who know very little of the richness of the Catholic life. Perhaps it is because they have failed to pay heed to the Pope’s suggestion. Because if they had — if you and I and the other separated Christians — would give just another glance to the Catechism, we would see the intensity of what Catholics believe. This is why to have Holy Scripture merged so seamlessly with Catechism (surely, something representative of Holy Tradition) is a great benefit to us all. Simply, because such a union births well an understanding of the Scriptural foundation for the Catechism, and thus Catholic doctrine.

Features

Beyond having this union present, The Didache Bible includes an Introduction explaining Scripture in the Catholic Church. Growing up post-Protestant (i.e., fundamentalist and anti-Catholic), I was convinced Catholics had little to no regard for Scripture. Yet, if you take seriously the Introduction, you will see that those in communion with the Bishop of Rome are called to have a high view of Scripture. Further, Scripture is not merely an individual enterprise where one sifts randomly through its pages to find something pertinent. Rather, Scripture is the inspired word of God, with its principal author (God) moving through human witnesses to insure the message is delivered rightly. Further, Scripture is a Revelation in and of itself (along with Holy Tradition). Proper understanding is restricted, of course, to insure an orderly transfer of that message. Imagine, if you will, if everyone was allowed an interpretation and in that interpretation, regardless of how unfounded and wild it is, one finds equality. Finally, the Introduction gives a brief synopsis of the proper way to find meaning in Scripture (i.e., Allegorical, Moral, and Anagogical). Following this is a section on how to read the bible (and thusly named).

What may be surprising to some are the Documents of the Magisterium included in this bible. These are referred to at various times throughout the notes (because of their use in the Catechism). Also included is a Brief Summary of Sacred Scripture, a Chronology of both the Old and the New Testaments, and Scriptural passages for personal meditation. These passages will include notable Catholic views, such as Passages About the Life of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Throughout the Canon are small (on page) apologetic treatises designed to give a better account of particular Catholic doctrines. You can find a listing of this in the back of the bible (1784—95). These include such topics as “Catholics’ Belief in the Bible,” “The Deposit of Faith,” “Just War,” Mary, the Mother of God,” and “Speaking in Tongues.” Each of these begin with a passage from Scripture, followed by a brief exegetical explanation drawn from both Scripture and Tradition, ending with a reference to the Catechism. They are not arranged according to Scripture, or any order I can see, only inserted periodically. In all, they provide for nearly any question one has about particular Catholic doctrines.

Each book has an introduction. This includes author, date, audience, and main themes. A brief survey of the author section includes a union between Tradition and Scholarship. For instance, in reading the Pastorals, The Didache Bible notes what Tradition has said as well as the challenges by scholars. In reading the Catholic epistles (James, 1-2 Peter, etc…), the editors give great care in walking the line between the Church and the Academy. For example, they rightly note that 2 Peter has long been suspect, not simply from the 19th century. The same goes for the dating and the audience. The Didache Bible does not hide Scripture from historical criticism, but simply presents both answers — Church and Academy.

The notes, the primary feature, of the bible are found on nearly every page of Holy Writ. While some are not summaries of the Catechism, more are. For instance, the first note on the “Wisdom of Solomon” is in regards to authorship and theme. The second note summarizes 1.1–16. However, the note to Wisdom 1.4 is based on �365 of the Catechism while the note to Wisdom 1.7 comes from the Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Catholic Church. The goal throughout is to connect Catholic teaching found primarily in the Catechism to Scripture and vice versa. The notes are not merely a commentary, but the way Catholics read Scripture, form doctrine, and shape their moral lives.

Finally, The Didache Bible includes a glossary, maps, and an index of subjects. Unlike the glossary, this index includes scriptural passages supportive of various subjects. For instance, if someone is interested in Penance and Reconciliation in Scripture, they can turn to a various of passages such as Matthew 16.19, Matthew 3.8, or Luke 3.8. Or, if they want to see what verses relate to “Saint” they will get the usual verses where we are all saints (Romans 1.7) but also the passages used to support the intercession of saints (Mark 8.38; Luke 9.26 and 24.5). Each section, to be sure, had different topics within it.

Summary

I have numerous study bibles, but none so important as The Didache Bible. This is not merely a Catholic bible, but a Christian bible. While Protestants may protest still, they can find something deep in this – something that simply states that Catholicism is a biblical Christianity (if not the biblical Christianity). I am more than impressed — impressed beyond words — at the manner in which this bible has been put together. This provides answers to the question of whether or not Catholicism is biblical — are intercessory prayers biblical? The Trinity? Mary? The Pope? Not only are we given a proper way to read Scripture, but we are given eyes to see the great union between Scripture and Tradition. I am unsure if The Didache Bible could ever be surpassed.
