About the Author
Nashville-based Jake Brown is the author of 30 books, including Motorhead: In the Studio (co-wrirren with Lemmy Lilmister),founding Guns N' Roses guitarist Tracii Gun's authorised memoir, due in summer 2011, Tom Waits: In the Studio (due June 2011) and AC/DC: In the Studio. He is also a featured author in Memoirs of Rick James: Confessions of a Super Freak and has been featured in such US publications as USA Today, The New York Post, Vibe and Billboard. He was recently nominated alongside Lemmy Kilmister for the 2010 Association for Record Sound Collections Awards in the category of Excellence in Historical Record Sound Research.

Terrible.

Not very good. Numerous factual errors throughout the book, and you can tell it was poorly edited - if edited at all. Also, I was expecting an analysis of the albums from the author's viewpoint - instead, it is merely a collection of quotes the band gave to various websites and such. Very dissapointing.

Disappointing, please avoid.

This book is a pathetic excuse to cash on the almighty Iron Maiden.
The author, and it's an insult to real book writers everywhere to call him that, is a total ignorant. He never gives his opinion, he bases not a single paragraph on his thoughts or likes, he always uses outside information from others, recurring on the pathetic, the band told a "journalist", he can't e ven name all his sources, I had to finish this trainwreck of a book as a guilty pleasure, it's like discussing your favorite band with a Selena Gomez fan (apologies to her�)
Picture this book as those all images, " teen- focused poster magazines" , but this doesn't even has images on a quantity to justify it's existence, the book is full of mistakes:

Heaven can wait is on 1992's Fear of the Dark
dive dive dive, a foolish Bruce solo track is referred as a Maiden track.
What pisses me the most, because I have purchased some fan written material, and, beneath the bad grammar, there's a maidenhead heart beating, this dude is a total, in the words of Joey from Manowar, a total poseur.

A republishing of other people's work

I purchased this when it first came out expecting good journalism and a behind the scenes look at the band. The author never once interviewed any band members - he only quoted from other interviews conducted by other journalists. I wonder why he was nominated for the "2010 Association for Record Sound Collections Awards in the category of Excellence in Historical Record Sound Research" - there must not have been any other nominees. I will grant that he did a good job of scouring the Internet for interviews with the band and compiling quotes. Does that count as "Excellence in Historical Record Sound Research"? I kept reading hoping to find that he at least spent some time with the band while they recorded "The Final Frontier", but I was disappointed. I could have read most of this book for free on the Internet. I feel the book misrepresents what it actually is. Buyer beware.
