About the Author
Rosenna Bakari Ph.D., is a published author, educator, and visionary. She is a Professor of Psychology at Des Moines Area Community College and is featured in the 2007 volume of Who’s Who in America. Her professional publications are included in “The Journal of Negro Education” and “Teaching and Teacher Education” and her transformative poetry collection boasts over 150 poems. She founded Talking Trees, Inc. in 2010 after deciding to live openly as a survivor of incest and childhood sexual abuse. She felt the absence of healing resources for 40 million survivors was her call to impact the world. Since the creation of Talking Trees she has written, directed and produced a theatrical performance about adult survivors called Talking Trees as well. Dr. Bakari is also a fitness advocate with a 3rd-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a two-time marathon finisher. She stresses the importance of fitness in healing. She is not new to advocacy work. In 1994, she published her first book, “Self-Love: Developing and Maintaining Self-Esteem for the Black Woman”. Her current work on women issues addresses male dominance. Her contemporary theory of original sin, male-dominance and the influence on rape culture can be found in a series of YouTube videos. Dr. Bakari’s presentations include poetry, and the spoken word as she reads, raps and rhymes to inspire and motivate. She pulls from her life experiences, formal education and creative expressions to deliver her messages of inspiration to challenge her audience to laugh at themselves, think critically, then move to a higher level.
